Since the Hong Kong protests have turned violent the HK Police have been stretched to the limit as officers are repurposed to the front lines to try to control the mayhem that the protesters have unleashed on the streets of HK.
This has resulted in fewer police officers being available to deal with common crimes in Hong Kong including burglaries.
HK police offers have also become targets themselves of the protesters who accuse them of brutality and threaten to attack them. And the police are running scared in Hong Kong unwilling to walk the beat and instead patrolling from inside their secure police vehicles.
Recently a luxury watch vendor in Hong Kong observed masked criminals smash through the window of a nearby watch company and steal hundreds of expensive watches. The thieves were unopposed and dispersed into the busy streets of Hong Kong.
Smash and rob crimes have risen dramatically in Hong Kong with both commercial establishments and residents of affluent HK'ers being targeted.
