your cases should come off with a few screws...i took mine of before painting to save on masking time...not too difficult with a Philips screwdriver (cross-tip)

Don't paint on it, get yourself some matching colour spray paints. And remember to Scotch pad the surface, and if you want to be perfect a coat of primer always helps.
