Where to stay - Family with 3-yr old twins

We are moving to Hkk, I work near Taikoo Place. Our budget is 35-50k. We would like a 3-bedroom place and space and facilities for the boys.

Looked at Bel-Air but seemed a bit ghostly. I liked Belchers. But wonder if we miss anything by not looking at Mid-levels (west?). Our feeling is too crowded.

I went to Discovery Bay, overall liked it. A bit to Western and some place are not kept in good conditions. Main concern is travel time. At least 70mins to the office.

Any properties we should look at. We would like one where there is a bit of a community, perhaps not amongst parents but at least the kids.

I don't know which phase of Bel-Air you visited - phases 1 and 2 are longer established, so less 'ghostly', whereas Bel-Air on the Peak is newer, so perhaps feels less established. Either way, I doubt if there's a place with better facilities for 3-year olds: indoor pool, outdoor pool, indoor games room, outdoor play area, etc. At weekends, there are always loads of children playing all over the development.

If you chose phases 1 or 2, you would also be near Cyberport Park (good for young children to walk around, or learn to cycle), to the cinema and to Cyberport in general, which I think is getting an increasing feel of community.

We looked at Belchers when we relocated 18 months ago with our two young children. I pass it every day on the way to work and am always pleased that we eliminated it from our thoughts, just due to location. I can't comment on Mid-levels, too crowded for us, but I can see that it has its attractions, if you like somewhere more lively.

We've just moved to The Belchers after 3 years in midlevels central and it has been one of the best moves we have ever made! There is plenty of space for the toddler to run around safely, many different playgrounds and other facilities on site to keep her interested and we are close enough to still be in midlevels in 10 min. We had similar ghostly thoughts about Bel-Air!

The problem with living in the mid-levels with kids is that the air is very polluted.

My friends who have young children found that their kids were always sneezing, coughing, having trouble sleeping at night and always had a runny nose. They were always taking them to the doctor.

Once they moved out ie..south side, repulse bay, their condition got so much better.

The great thing about living in the mid-levels assuming that you work in Central, is that you can spend more time with your children because you are spending less time commuting (ie..disco bay). Some parents take the escalator back home at lunch to see their kids.

Besides HK Park, there are not much in terms of facilities for your kids.

They won't be riding a bicycle down the street.

Hmm both -

I visited Bel-Air Phase 3 and thought it was a lot of concrete. I thought Bel-Air 1 and 2 would be better but the agent wanted to stir us to Phase 3 (she said Phase 1 and 2 a lot of maintenance problems).

I am not sure what the problem with Belcher's location is? The agent also said something like that, but I still don't understand it.

I can't see any problem with the Belcher's location either.

The only thing is that my office is on the East (Taikoo Place), I am wondering with North Point and Peak (East) would be an option. Braemer Hill?

If I were you I would get out of the city and check out Clearwater Bay, it is quite convenient to Taikoo

There's only really one kindy in Clearwater Bay, thats Abacus, but there are several in Sai Kung. And Clearwater Bay primary is a very nice school for in a couple of years. With a car you can get from Clearwater Bay to North point in 15 mins or so.

You should choose Pacific Palisades. They are fully furnished apartments on 1 Braemar Hill (above North Point) owned by Sinoland (a big developer in HK). There are regular shuttle buses to go to Causeway Bay (15 minutes)& Taikoo Shing. It is only 15 mins by bus to the French International School. Plus, it has 3 swimming pools, 2 kids' playground and a club house. It has plenty of space for the kids to run around with huge public park at the back of the complex.

Many people who live there are expats (mainy Japanese) as it is within walking distance from the Japanese School, the Chinese International School & the Quarry Bay School (ESF).

The flats are 13 years old and have 3 rooms only. But Sinoland can renovate the whole place to make a maid's room inside the kitchen. We are going to move into one with nice seaview, 1 car parking space plus new furniture picked by us from G.O.D. We would pay HK$36K per month all inclusive (incl management fees, government rates & land tax) with a 2-year contract. If you don't need a car parking space, don't need a sea view and would choose furniture from Ikea instead of G.O.D. You can contact Candy Yu from the rental office there on (852)25128858.

Good luck!
