i just bought a small one bedroomer in the greens. am looking for a reliable & reasonably priced contractor in DB or someone who knows the ins & outs of renovating in DB without giving me a headache over permits, transportation problems or work passes etc. (i am new to DB). i have a quote from one contractor, but it seems exhorbitant (e.g. HKD5,500 just to install 3 doors, not inclusive of price of doors), & i'd like to see a few more quote to compare prices, as i have no clue how much these things cost in HK (from the quote i got, everything is twice the price from where i used to live, & i'd like to find out if it's just a matter of a higher cost of labour etc here in HK).
thx appreciate any help i can find.

HI, I have renovated two flats in the Greens. My last contractor was good and I would recommend him. Contact Larry at 9271 0529.
But note, there is a lot of renovation going on in DB and it is a sellers market in terms of contractors. Find someone you feel comfortable with and that you feel you can communicate with. But whomever you choose, you will need to oversee every tiny detail.

that price is high by australian standards but then what kind of doors are we talking about here. for standard doors it cost about half that to install.

thanks... yes i realise i was being ripped off by this guy - he asked for my keys "to check out if i needed to change the wiring" but he moved all his things in & then turned nasty when i protested that i hadn't confirmed hiring him yet (no deposit paid no contract signed!) - he wanted HKD3,000 as compensation for his 'efforts' - he claimed he'd put down deposits for materials but when i volunteered to pay for the materials & take them from him, he said no, i cldn't have the materials! in the end, i changed my lock & put his things downstairs & sent him a message to collect his things and that if he wanted compensation he can talk to my lawyers... never heard a peep from him since...
beware of a mr chau in DB... his work seemed very good when i inspected another apartment he showed me, but i didn't like the high-handed presumptiousness...
is this a chinese hk contractor vs. overseas chinese female client thing? i felt very angry that he was so unprofessional and tried to pull a fast one on me... even claiming (since my cantonese isn't all too fluent) that i had actually verbally told him to start work! thank god i have a very good contractor (also in DB) handling the work now... btw he tells me the previous guy could not have ordered anything since i never paid any deposit...
thanks for all yr comments - very helpful!
