Hi There,
I was just wanting to get some thoughts on nice apartments for under $10k/month.
It looks like I'll be moving to HK within the next 2 months (working in Wan Chai) and I've been doing a little bit of research on places to live.
I like the look of Kennedy town and have seen a condo called the Merton with 1 bedroom flats (I'm a single female) advertised for $9K/month, which seems pretty good to me but I've heard mixed reports about the Merton because it's close to the abattior and apparently has bad finishings? I've also been looking at Sheung Wan but am having trouble finding a modern apartment block.
Ideally I'd like something that is modern with 1 bedroom. I'm quite prepared to catch the bus and am not fussy about being in trendy neigbourhoods.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

You may get in touch with some property agents around Wanchai..There is a newly renovated bldg near Tai Yuen (perpendicular to Queen's rd East), and saw some agents last week giving out flyers. While some might be for sale, you might chance upon units for rent...
And there's one bldg right on top of the MTR in Wanchai--check it out too when you go around with an agent.
good luck

Merton has wonderful views from some units (well, except that they've put tatty cheap window frames in that obstruct those views)but dreadful layout. As it is brand new, it will obviously be noisy as people move in and reconfigure/decorate. This is not a very convenient place if you're working in Wanchai.
As you say, new buildings in Sheung Wan are hard to find for 10k - but you might just be lucky at Queen's Terrace or Princeton Tower; both are less than 5 years and are passed by the fast and frequent red minibus to Wanchai; but you need to be above 25/F in each if you're sensitive to traffic noise.

Thanks very much for your responses, it sounds like it's better to stay closer to Wan Chai.
I guess HK is quite similar to Singapore in the respect that its better to stay in a serviced apartment initially and have a look around before making any decsions. Although, how are the agents? Here in Singapore they tend to show you all the crap they want to show you in order to get you to rent somewhere that the pay off is bigger for them. Does that happen in HK?

If a 45minute commute via MTR is acceptable (to get to Wanchai), check out Tung Chung-- specifically Tung Chung Crescent, SeaView Crescent and Coastal Skyline. TC Crescent is 6 years old, and the last 2 are 3yo.
We saw some units there last week, and a 1000sqft unit with 3BR/2T&B, and maid's room would start at 9.5k. A 2-Br flat would fetch for 7K. WRT pollution, I didn't notice much diference between the quality of air in Central/Wanchai vs Tung Chung..

Hey....thanks very much for the heads up annebin, Tung Chung looks great and such great value also!
I'm used to a 1 hour commute, so 45min is totally cool!
Thanks again!
