We are looking to exit HK Island to reduce housing costs and are considering NT. Both Ma On Shan and Tai Po were recommended to us as we have daily commutes to Central.
We are currently exploring Tai Po, but have not been to Ma On Shan yet. It seems, per the MTR system map, that MOS is further. Does anyone have thoughts on living in MOS, commuting, differences between MOS and TP?
We are looking at older colonial units, trying to get rent below $18K and have a small family.

Ma On Shan is a new(er) city it would be quite hard to find older colonial style houses there. One development that could be suitable for you with facilities is at Symphony Bay which is priced within your budget. The buses are regular Wu Kai Sha station is only 5 minutes away, but there is also buses from Ma On Shan town centre (only 10 minutes from Symphony Bay) to Central

Have a look at Fairview Park there is a shuttle bus to Central that takes 25 minutes. You can rent a 1300 sqft house with garden for under $18K
