Hi Pauline,

Glad to hear another Californian is moving to town. Firstly, when are you moving here? If you are planning to be here by this fall then you must look into schools for your children immediately. Spaces are scarce here and waiting list are long but you may have luck as your children are older.

Where you want to live is going to depend on what life style or enviroment you want to be surrounded with and what you budget is for rent. Keeping in mind the more convenient the more expensive it is, the more popular the area the more expensive it is. Also being that your husband will be working in Guanghzou it's about 1.5-2hours from HK island so not sure if you would rather live in Clearwater Bay or Sai Kung area, I don't know much about that area as I live on the island myself. However most schools for expats are located on Hong Kong Island itself.

Most Americans send their children to Hong Kong International ( www.hkis.edu.hk ), Canadian International ( www.cdnis.edu.hk) and the ESF schools which is on the British school system ( www.esf.edu.hk ) ESF schools are zoned upon where you live as they are located through out the island. The American International school is located in Kowloon which is not on the island.

Most expats who want to indulge themselves in city living on the island live in the Mid-Levels. Others live on the Southside in Stanley, Repulse Bay, Deepwater Bay or Tai Tam. The difference, southside is more green and beach but it's a drive to get into the city (aprox. 30 minutes) which is not long if you are coming from California traffic. It's more convenient to live in the Mid-Levels and you get more of the hussle and bussling of the busy city life and the pollution.

Public transportation here is great so you can get anywhere within 30 minutes.

If you give me an idea of what you are looking for I can give you more detail on the info you want. Glad to help as I was once in your shoes.

Good Luck and let me know.

Hello There,

What is your name? are you from LA like me?

yes the traffic here is crazy.

I got the boys booked into HKIS in Repulse Bay,

so I am going to be looking for an apartment there. Do you have any idea how I would go about finding an apartment there??

If you want good school, difinitely Hong Kong Island. Depends on your budget, I think HKI East is quite reasonable.
