Hi guys,
I'm trying to move to HK for the first time. My pay will be around $27000 per month, This might sound dumb but how much should I be paying for a flat per month and where can I find it? What's the least amount of money I can pay for a 1 bedroom flat there? I will be working in the central area- I also have no idea which areas are nice to live in.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Hong Kong is quite costly when it comes to rent. Depends on how big of a place you want, convenience/location and how much of your salary are you willing to spend on rent. Keep in mind, the more convenience you want, the smaller the place get and the higher the rent. Also what type enviroment do you want to be in...Most expats live in the Mid-Levels as it is quite convenient. Do you like quiet or do you want to be in the heart of the city to get into the night life. With that salary you can definately find something..might not be big you you can find something..
Good Luck!!

thanks gvong, I have no idea where to start. So mid-level is supposed to be an area? I'd like to be able to go out at night but would want my flat to be quiet so I can get some good nights sleep. Any places that fall into that category?

Basically you have Central..busy business area. Above Central you have the Mid-Levels where most of the buildings are where people live. Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo is the area where there is night life full of bars and restuarants located in Central. Most flats are quiet for the most part unless you happen to pick one downstairs from a family with rowdy kids. Again, if you want to stay centralized, assuming you do because you will be working in Central, you can get a place in the Mid-Levels but it won't be as spacious as it would be per say if you were to move to North Point/Quarry Bay. Take a look at www.hongkonghomes.com When you do a property search it will give you an idea of the size of a place you can get for what you are willing to spend in rent. It also has a little map that gives you the general layout of Hong Kogn Island. Let me know if you have any other questions.
