Hi guys, where/how would you find out about the financial health of you bank if you think it could go under. Of course you can call your bank and ask but I sure they won't discuss this over the phone... and I certainly wouldn't want to name them publicly, certainly woudn'lt want to a bank run:) The bank I want more info are euroepan banks.

On the positive side, HSBC has just announced it will not participate in the UK bailout citing 'no need for cash'.

They seem to be one of the strongest of any financial institution there is partly because in Hong Kong, unlike the States, you actually have to have a job and a deposit before you can get a mortgage from them.

If anyone is interested to move cash to HSBC there are banners on the site running promos for offshore accounts - on the home page of each city you have links to info for setting up a local account

I thought HSBC has participated in the UK scheme. But, anyway, so have all the other major banks in the UK, so that's no indication that HSBC is in any sort of trouble.

Lehman, an AAA rating means nothing these days. Wasn't Lehman Bros. and Washington Mutual rated AAA not too long ago?
