I'm moving to HKG in November and am considering the Gold Coast Serviced apartments as a quick short term solution, can anybody advise their experience? Also are there gyms on the gold coast? What is it like it seems isolated? What is the transport like from there to the airport I'll be working there daily....? All help apreciated

Depending on your circumstances I would either stay at the hotel GC hotel if you need a furnished place for a short time or the Novotel Citygate which is much closer to the airport. GC will take you 45mins by road, Novotel 10mins. There is a ferry from Tuen Mun about 5 mins drive from GC Hotel but it doesn't go right to the airport but quite close by.

If you want an apartment longer term then see if you can find a furnished/serviced one at Discovery Bay or Tung Chung (not sure if this is possible) or rent an unfurnished one at Discovery Bay, Tung Chung, Sham Tseng or GC but not in the GC complex itself - try one of the buildings across the road or close by instead.

Basically Tung Chung is the closest area to the airport, Discovery Bay is on the same island but on the other side and you have to get a bus - no cars allowed. Sham Teng and GC are in the New Territories. Sham Tseng is just over the 2 big bringes and it is a 30min drive to the airport - I think there may be a shuttle - Bellagio is the best apartment complex. The Gold Coast is another 10-15 minutes drive almost directly across the water from the airport. There ia a GC Hotel, Aparment Complex, Marina, Beach and Shopping Centre and several other buildings nearby all the people that live in the area say they live at the Gold Coast. Tuen Mun is another 5 minute drive but if you are a westerner this is probably not where you want to live - it is very local and quite industrial.

Most apartment complexes and hotels will have a small gym. The GC Aparments have quite a big 'clubhouse' with a gym and Discovery Bay has 3 clubhouses you can join. Also about 5 mins from the GC at tthe Tuen Mun Town Plaza there is a new California Fitness that opened in January.

You can easily live in the city and work at the airport - lots of people do just try and stay on the western side eg: sheung wan, kennedy town, central, soho - then you wont be fighting through the traffic. Does depend a bit on your hours - travelling out of the city in the morning is easy. There are regular airport busses and a 23minute airport train but the cost of that could add up quite quickly, I think staff get a discount though.

I moved to HOng Kong last week and am staying in a serviced apt on the Gold Coast which I've leased for one month whilst I take the time to look around and see where I want to live. THe staff have been very helpful and the apartment is very comfortable. There are shops nearby and shuttle buses in to the city and to Tsuen Wan Station. Not sure if theres a direct bus to the airport but the Tsuen Wan line connects to the airport line anyhow. Very nice residents club which is $20 to join for a month like I have and there's a gym (haven't used it yet but it looks well equiped) and a huge swimming pool. Lots of space if you have family too!

Also by far the cheapest serviced apartment I found but I needed 3 bedrooms. If you only need a one bedroom place there might be cheaper options but I didn' look those up.

I'd reccommend this place as a short term lease it's very nice indeed!
