Looking for a 6 month lease

ORIGINAL POST

Our current lease is up the end of July, we are looking for a 6 month lease starting sometime in July. There is a possiblity that we would want to extend it for 12 months. I have been told that most landlords do not want short term leases like this. Does anyone have any thoughts?

(Ideally we are looking for a three bedroom rental, our kids go to HKIS, we don't have a car so public transportation is important as well.)

Why not extend the lease where you are? That's your best bet. You're right, most landlords won't consider a short lease. I do have one landlord who will though, but it depends on what your budget is. Please send me a pm if you'd like more details.

The place where we are is too expensive. Our eldest is off to college and we are trying to stay in Hong Kong without spending that much money. If we are off an expat package and are local where we are is way over the top.

You could try a Government apartment there a couple of places that have a short tenancy (up to Dec/Jan 2010) at Mansfield Road, The Peak and Mount Butler they are quite big apartments but depends on your budget. You would have to pay agency fees and you would also have to supply appliances and air cons although you could pick up stuff fairly cheap here on asiaxpat classifieds this is what we did and it worked out well for us. Glendale also have some apartments available their lease is available until August 2010 you could ask the Agent to ask for a 6 month breakcaluse. You would need to go and look at the condition of the properties as some are awful but you maybe lucky and get one that is okay. Good luck. website www.gpa.gov.hk (go to properties to rent) once on the page is says click (HERE) in blue and you will get a list, They also give you the list of agents who are allowed to deal with government properties.

Thanks for the advice about the Government apartments. That might work, I am also trying to find a break-lease on the south side to make the transportation to school less of an issue. I am trying to talk to as many people and agents as possible to see if I can uncover something.

I am still looking for a place and hoping for the southside. I need to look at school transportation from Kowloon Tong since the kids go to school on the southside. I will pm you if I need more information since it might be a good option

Thanks for your response, actually living in Kowloon Tong is the centre point of public transportation, MTR, of Hong Kong. You will experience more local living with convenient transportation, you can check Festival Walk just above Kowloon Tong MTR which is great shopping mall for all your daily necessities. You can call me at 9488 0167 Philip and I will show you around for your decision making, remember you can save your money without deteriote in living environment.

Hi Octobergirl - we are moving out of our 3 bedroom townhouse in about a month and have 1 year remaining on the lease. We are located in South Bay - walking distance to HKIS.

Please let me know if you are interested in taking over our lease.
