Renovation a flat for rent.
The difference in price of the units is insignificant but the cost of putting up scaldfolding jacks up the cost appreciably.
Would installing split type be a hassle and more costly for upkeep and maintenance? Also heard about problems after major building renovaton.
Anybody has experience on that?
I'd like to hear from folks who are renting and get their views, too.
Would you feel more positive about a flat with split type rather than the window units? To what extend would this affect your decision to rent an apartment.
Many thanks

I find the window aircons let in much more outside noise compared with the splits, so would much prefer splits.

Thanks everyone for responding.
I am convinced split types will definitely add value to the flat.
Assuming two flats were same, would you be willing to pay slightly higher rent for having split types? How much a premium would you put on having them?
Thanks guys

It's a bit like car options, necessities and nice to haves. The necessities will ensure a sale, the nice to haves will not command a premium but will maybe make the car more easy to sell. Split level air-con comes into the nice to have bracket, for selling or renting it will not make a difference however you may realise the sale / rental faster.

Splits simply are better, no noise and no taking up valuable window space and most splits being longer distribute cool air more efficiently. My two cents!

definitely splits, we rented for 2 years with window air cons and couldn't use the bedroom because it was so noisy. when we bought we insisted on split and wouldn't consider any property without it.

Thank you all taking the time to give me feedback.
Evildeeds, like your analogy.

there are hybrid types available - the outside compressor unit has the same footprint as a window unit, but sits entirely outside on the ledge (you board up/glaze the hole) while the cooling fan goes wherever you want.
These can be installed from the inside, without the need for scaffolding outside
I used 'General' - all the benefits of a split aircon, just a bit more plumbing and platering than a window unit
