Tenant wishes for a roof top storage cabinet

Hi there,

I am tenant of a flat in a 11 storey bldg built in the 50's. I wish to buy a storage cabinet on the roof for storing 2 kids + 2 adults bicycles mainly. The roof top is simply too huge and totally unused.

What steps do you recommend? Shall I assume each flat is allocated a share of the roof or could there be only one owner? Are there bldg regulations I could check on my own or shall I simply ask kindly my landlord?

Do I need approval and consent from the BD?

PS: Clearly the cabinet will not exceed a height of 1.5 metres or affect the structure of the building, or obstruct a fire escape route or affect a drainage system.

thank you walkup...

The building has three distinct staircases/lifts/numbering system with 4 flats in each lifts. The far left one is now a garden which substantiate your intuition i.e. a single owner.

The two remaining sections are totally bare. Which may mean multiple owners who cant agree.

So I understand the best course of action is starting with the landlord. I will. Thank you

Extremely unlikely, as walkup has stated the rooftop normally belongs to the top floor flat. Usually rented out as such too and anyone else placing items there are trespassing. Easy to find out the situation though.
