Moving for husband's job-- visa needed?

Hi,

We are considering a move to Hong Kong from New York. There is an opportunity for my husband to transfer there with his job at an international newspaper that has an office in Hong Kong. I don't know his visa details yet, but I know there are many American employees working in the Hong Kong office with no problem.

My questions are:

1. What visa will I need to move with him?

2. How can I work in Hong Kong as well?

Thanks for any advice!

Assuming both you and husband are US citizens:

1. Your husband comes into HK with approved working visa, or, comes in with a tourist visa and working visa will be processed while here (the previous option is better but may be slower).

2. You come in with a tourist visa (which need not be applied and will be stamped upon arrival).

3. Your husband (with approved working visa), will apply for your dependent's visa. He's your "sponsor". Approval is almost automatic (I don't know what will cause it to be rejected, maybe some special reasons.)

4. Once you have the dependent visa, you can work for any company (this is better than your husband because he can only work for the company that sponsored for his work visa).

Thank you cara, punter, and cookie! Those are really helpful answers. It doesn't sound like this will be as scary as I expected. Thanks!
