Visa and part time work

Hi

I have a company sponsored work visa and have now been reduced to part time hours. In order to bump up my now low salary, can I take up additional work elsewhere? Either employed or self employed?

Thanks!

Yes you can, but that will be illegal.

Thanks Punter. That's a bit disheartening... If paid cash in hand how would they find out? Also, it's only a temporary situation until they can increase my hours to full time again (6 months or so)

uk2hk,

How did you go? Sorry to resurrect this one but I've only just seen it and it caught my interest because it is very unlikely that your original visa would have been approved if it was known it was going to be part-time work. I might be checking whether my employer was in breach of the visa conditions by reducing my hours - but there again that might end up with the employer deciding that it was better to let you go altogether. Tough call!
