Visa Help

Hello-

My husband and I are American citizens moving to Hong Kong.

I will be employed by my American company, but overseeing our factory in Hong Kong.

Being that I am still employed by an American Company, what is the best visa option for me?

Secondly, if I need a work visa would I then have someone from the factory in China do the Letter of Invitation for me?

Can I enter with a tourist visa then get all of this work visa/permit stuff figured out in China?

I am also confused by the Authentication Form. What am I authenticating?

I would love to have a one-on-one resource that would help me out if anyone is willing. A clearly defined list of the steps involved, as the embassy website are a little confusing, sending me to various links. Can you direct me to a great website for this or who I should call (as I can't get a hold of any china embassies in US.)

Perhaps you can clarify your question a bit.

Will you be be based in Hong Kong? If so, do you have a company that is based in Hong Kong that will be sponsoring your visa? Why are you looking for someone in China to do the letter of Invitation - is this for a Chinese visa?

A Hong Kong visa and a Chinese (i.e. for entry into Mainland China) are two very different things.

I will be based in Hong Kong.

I'm not sure if the company in Hong Kong should sponsor my visa as I am employed by my American company, but working in the factory that makes our product in Hong Kong.

So - do I just need to apply for a Hong Kong visa?

It is illegal to work in Hong Kong without a valid working visa. You would need to clarify the following questions with your American company:

(1) Does your American company have a subsidiary in Hong Kong?

(2) If yes, does your Hong Kong company have an office in Hong Kong and are there any local staff working for the HK company?

(3) Your remuneration package.

It is difficult to advise you further without the above information. Please also note that it will take approximately 4 to 6 weeks for the Immigration to process a working visa. Should you wish to discuss further, you can email info@a-swiss.com or visit www.a-swiss.com for more information.
