Hi
I have the opportuniy to take up a contract position as an IT Architect in Hong Kong. Problem is I have no Idea what rates and conditions are in HK.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what can/can't be negotiated in and what rates are? Basically any information would be good.
Thanks

How long is a piece of string. What is the industry, what is the company, how much bureaucracy do you have to deal with. What are enjoyable and boring parts of the job for you.?
What industry is the company in, what industry is your background...
Did the position exist before, how much understanding do they have of the job.
The range HK$200K/month, to HK$40K/month... and a lot is dependent on what you want.

Hi Fenix2
Good Points. Some of which I wish I had the answers to myself. Going in a little blind I guess.
Although you have enlightened me on the rates. I also take it from your email that most other aspects such as accomodation, travel, stipend etc are negotiable.
Thanks

Hi
I am currently in Australia. 41 with 17 years IT experience, 9 of those in Enterprise/Data Centre virtualisation/storage/backups Design and Support. Currently studying Masters of Management. Company that is contracting me is in line with CSC/IBM/HP size into a Aviation/Finance sector.
I am interested in how HK works as far as:
Rates, are they hourly, daily or monthly?
Do they do fly in fly out?
Do they provide accomodation and/or stipend?
What is the expected amount for a HR company to expect as gratuity for finding the position?
And any other quirks of working in HK?
I have reviewed a few sites but not many discuss rates etc...
I know the ins and outs here in Australia and from some mates that have worked elsewhere in the Asiapac region but none in HK.
Thanks

Freefall,
1) Monthly salary, no hourly rates for foreigners.
2) they may fly u in. all depends on the position and how senior it is
3) most get housing allowance. then upto u how much of it u want to spend
4) Employer will pay the HR company not employee
5) U will need the company to sponsor u
There are other expats sites in HK that can provide better info on employment options in HK more so than this one. That site starts with a G.
