Strategic Research Lead (Global Law Firm)
Our client is a leading global law firm with a legacy spanning nearly a century. We are assisting them to look for a highly analytical and commercially minded Strategic Research Lead to join its global Strategic Research Group. This newly created role will be based in APAC to support the growing demand for strategic insights across the region. You will work closely with colleagues in Hong Kong, UK, US, and other APAC offices, delivering high-impact research and analysis to support business development and client engagement.
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct strategic market research and trend analysis across sectors such as FinTech and Private Capital.
- Interview requesters to understand and scope their needs and requirements, proactively make suggestions as to how research requests and projects can be enhanced
- Produce insightful reports that go beyond surface-level data, identifying market gaps and growth opportunities.
- Develop ideas for topics that will impact clients; develop bespoke analysis to support hypothesis
- Support fee earners and partners with tailored intelligence for business development (BD) activities.
- Provide recommendations on research and analysis approach, the merits of different data sets in support of firm initiatives and projects
- Identify key data providers and work with colleagues to determine if the firm should invest in them
- Translate complex data into actionable insights and client-facing talking points.
- Present findings to senior stakeholders, including partners and BD leadership.
- Collaborate with global colleagues across UK, US, and APAC, managing time zone differences effectively.
Position Requirements
- Degree in Statistics, Economics, Business, or related field. MBA strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years in strategic research, market intelligence, or data analysis.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Strong sector and investment banking product knowledge, drawing on this knowledge to produce insightful output that can support the strategy of our practice groups and the firm
- Ability to conduct deep-dive research and identify uncapped market segments.
- The ability to interpret and then articulate key trends from raw data, e.g. deal data, and present it to our internal audience in an engaging, decision-ready format
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to abstract and summarize complex arguments and draw conclusions that align to the firm's interests and/or help to identify opportunities
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Proven experience working with senior stakeholders.
- Can excel in a global, cross-functional team.
- Strong technical skills in key financial products, particularly Capital IQ, Pitchbook, FactSet and LSEG
- Fluency in English is a MUST
