Hello,
My son will be starting K1 this August (1:00pm-4:00pm) at Victoria Causeway Bay, and I had some questions for any Victoria parents out there. I just got the informational packet, and now I find that I have lots of questions. This is our first experience with school in HK, so any advice/suggestions would be appreciated!
- how many uniform sets do I need to buy (summer and winter)?
- is "sportswear" only for sports or can they wear it in the classroom as well? It doesn't look too different from the regular uniform (polo + shorts).
- is my child required to wear a uniform every day, or can we occasionally use our own clothes?
- what is the Toys Library membership fee? Is it a toy library on campus or the one in the HK Library in Causeway Bay?
- if the "refreshments fee" is optional, can my child bring his own snack to school everyday? Or do most of the children use the catering company for snacks?
- Have you used the school bus before? Was it generally a positive experience for your child? I am debating whether to use the bus or have my helper use the MTR/bus to take him to school and back.
A few things that are optional (like school books) seem like necessity, so I'm not sure why they are listed as optional, unless they assume that some parents can re-use materials from an older sibling?
Thanks in advance for any help!

To answer your questions:
Q: how many uniform sets do I need to buy (summer and winter)?
A: at least 1 set each for summer & winter
Q: is "sportswear" only for sports or can they wear it in the classroom as well?
A: Sportswear is to be worn to school usually twice a week as the school uniform.
Q: is my child required to wear a uniform every day, or can we occasionally use our own clothes?
A: YES, your child is required to wear a uniform every day (EXCEPT perhaps the birthday celebration day at the end of each month)
Q: What is the Toys Library membership fee?
A: It is a toy library on the Victoria campus.
Q: is the "refreshments fee" optional?
A: Not sure about this but I assume that most parents will agree to pay for this.
Q: Have you used the school bus before?
A: NO, I haven't. But even kids as young as 2 years old can take the school bus (there is always a lady on board to check the seat belt and look after the kids).
Q: A few things that are optional (like school books).....?
A: Assuming you can buy these 2nd hand or passed from other friends/siblings.
Hope this help.
