The Vaccine Knowledge Project in the UK indicates that on average, there are over 600 flu-related deaths in the country each year with extraordinary years deaths exceed 13,000 as they did in 2008-09.

In 2018 - 800,000 Americans were hospitalized with a virus that has symptoms similar to that of the coronavirus (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) and 61,000 Americans died from this disease.

From the Bloomberg article, many hospitals were overwhelmed with cases of the virus and were treating sufferers 'in their parking lots'

The CDC indicates that 'the key difference between the coronavirus and the flu that struck the US in 2018 is that people most at risk 'will have either travelled to China or been in close contact with an infected individual'

Odd, I don't recall hearing about this pandemic in America in 2018.

China's population is more than 4x that of the United States.   So for China to match the US there would need to be over 200,000 deaths from the Coronavirus....

Now if there were 200,000 deaths in China from this virus, the current panic would turn into pandemonium....

Coronavirus versus Sars versus the American Flu – a tale of three viruses

These are the similarities and differences between the latest health emergency and its predecessor, Sars, which affected more than 8,000 people in 37 countries, and the American Flu of 2018 which 800,000 Americas (I don't have stats for global numbers for the American Flu).

The 3 diseases are genetically similar and all three have flu-like symptoms, but the coronavirus is clinically milder.

Those infected with all 3 viruses exhibit similar symptoms : malaise, dry cough, respiratory distress and shortness of breath.

The key difference, as far as I can see,  is that the American Flu of 2018 killed 61,000 people.

We've got a doctor from the UK staying in our rental accommodation --- just had a chat with him about this virus and he says it's another from of the flu.   The death rates are similar to other flu viruses.    As he mentioned, in a bad year in the UK thousand die from the flu.

He does not understand why countries are taking such extreme actions for this particular flu virus.

New Zealand is the latest country to block all Chinese tourists.

Surely there is something we are not being told.

A mate of mine received a call from a client who is a doctor part of a global medical organization involved in dealing with pandemics.

He receives regular updates regarding the coronavirus and told him that there are concerns resulting from the inspections of the dead bodies of people infected with the virus.

He is strongly suggesting he leave the region.

That's as much as I know.

I passed this on to my mate this morning....

His response:

Yes that’s what my client was saying. He had never seen a virus as “smart” as this one with the capacity to mutate so quickly.

Scientists in China now state that they have detected “striking” mutations in a
new coronavirus
that may have occurred during transmission between family members.
